1. Background

 

Oleuropein, the bitter elements in the Olive which widely exists in the Olea Europaea, Fraxinus]apanlca Blune, Ligustrum lucidum Ait and Ligustnun japanica Thumb, is a Phenol split ring iridoid glycosides. Oleuropein can hardly be planted in China due to its strict requirements on environment. There is two periods when the Olea Europaea have the Oleuropein in the peak time every year. They are February and May , especially February. The Oleuropein contents level differs according to its breed even they are harvested at the same time.

 

2. Development of Olea Europaea

To satisfy different customers' needs, extracts with different Oleuropein contents are developed. These extracts are of guaranteed purity and consistency in composition. With the current technological standards, up to 40% purity Oleuropein can be achieved.

3. Physical and Chemical Properties 

1) Oleuropein formula: C25H32O13  2) Molecular weight : 540.52.  3) Melting point: 87~89°C  4) Hygroscopic. 5) Very soluble in ethanol, acetone, pyridine, etc.  6)  Soluble in water, butanol, ethyl acetate, etc.  7)  Almost insoluble in ether, petroleum ether, chloroform, etc.

4. Stability

BannerBio carried out research on the shelf life of Olive leaf extract under room conditions (25oC, 60% humidity) over a period of 36 months. Based on three quality markers including the Oleuropein content, impurity level and moisture content, Olive leaf Extract was proved to have extreme stability on shelf.

11. The market condition of Oleuropein

 

Almost all the suppliers in China are unable to produce big quantity. Because the raw material resource (Olive leaf) is quite limited in China. The Oleuropein content of each production lot differs largely. Some production lot contains 13% of Oleuropein while another may contain 18%. Most of the suppliers here in China cheat for their Olive leaf extract assay. They mark higher no. on the package or in their COA. In fact the Oleuropein content is less than the no. they marked. For example, they mark their Oleuropein content as 25% while in fact it only has 19%.
